Anchor bag for a small boat

I picked up a small folding anchor for my canoe. Now I need a handy way to carry, stow, and deploy it. I had some scraps of Sunbrella left over from Nepenthe's sail cover, so... This is me cleverly combining drainage holes with making corners easier to sew.

Since these were scraps, I had to piece together the bottom and sides with an otherwise unneeded seam... Also, webbing handle installed.

In addition to the sunbrella, I had a piece of floatation foam I'll use to pad the bottom of the bag. This is the false bottom, with a baffle sewn on; the baffle will form a pocket to keep the rode all good and untangled.

Inside of the bag with the false bottom sewn on.

First end added.

Second end added.

I probably could have gotten away with making the bag an inch shorter, so as to fit an extra half-inch of seam allowance onto my scraps, and be able to do a tidier job here. Oh, well. Next time. A nice $1000 sailrite heavy-duty sewing machine would probably help, too... The little domestic I have is definitely struggling with this stuff.

Stiffening the top with some more webbing.

Hand stitching the baffle into place, so that when it gets shoved into the machine, it stays put...

The extra padding in the bottom makes it extra challenging to get the inside seams under the sewing machine... I don't have photos of the point when I was holding the bag in my teeth because I was out of hands...

Baffle installed.

The webbing around the top tended to make the bag round, so I pinched it at each corner and added some stitching.

Fits the anchor quite generously when it's folded...

And not too shabbily even with the anchor unfolded and ready for deployment. So now that the concept is proofed and prototyped, I'll have to pick up some more fabric and foam, and make a bigger version for Nepenthe's anchor.
